Thai Yoga Bodywork

Thai yoga massage is a holistic and ancient bodywork practice. As a traditional mind-body medicine Thai massage works with applied techniques to stimulate deep relaxation in the body and release energy blocks and stagnation throughout the entire system. It uses momentum and gravity rather than muscular strength and engages techniques that can use the forearms, knuckles, fists, knees and feet to apply pressure.

Thai bodywork also works with the mechanical, fluid and energetic layers of the body. The core principles of this healing modality centres around mind, body and spirit integration. Using tools of meditation, presence and intuitive listening, we create a safe and sacred space to encourage self-healing for both the receiver and giver.

Although traditionally performed on the floor, and without oils Thai yoga bodywork can be adapted very effectively to a treatment table and the techniques can be integrated into any sports massage or oil based treatment.

  • you already work on a table and would like to expand your toolkit of massage techniques
  • you are looking to adapt your practice to use less muscular effort and finger/thumb pointed touch, to maximize leverage and use body mechanics to save energy while giving treatments, ultimately increasing your capacity and long-term practice as a professional therapist
  • you enjoy the movements such as stretching and compression from Thai yoga massage, but prefer to work on a table for whatever reason – possibly because it is not conducive or comfortable for you to work on the floor for your own body, or you have little space for a large futon on the floor, etc.
  • you already practice Thai yoga massage, yet are looking for more ways to adapt your practice.
  • you are a complete beginner and looking to explore touch, movement and massage to give a gentle, 1-hour table treatment, either as a starting point for a career in bodywork, or simply to share with those that you love

About Susie

I am a licenced physiotherapist, myo-fascial therapist, movement educator, pilates and yoga instructor and a life long student of meditation and the Eastern healing arts. I received my professional training in UCD school of physiotherapy graduating in 1993 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree. I have undertaken a considerable amount of training over the years in somatic therapies, breathwork, myofascial release and structural integration. I am currently delving deep into the study of visceral osteopathy.

I offer bespoke workshops to introduce people to working hands on with the body in a fluid and dynamic way. The inspiration for these trainings is rooted in the depth of what I have received through bodywork and a real passion to share this experience. In these workshops I blend all the wisdom and experience I’ve received through my own direct experience and clients responses in over 30 years working as a bodyworker as well as all the insights and inspirations drawn from extensive travel and study with incredible teachers and traditions of bodywork.

About Erica

I have been practicing yoga, spirituality and healing modalities for over 12 years. Having explored other forms of bodywork already, I found a real connection and faith upon discovering Thai Yoga Massage and I haven’t looked back since. I received my practitioner certificate through the Sunshine Network in 2015 and have been running my private practice in Lisbon, Portugal since 2017.

As a member of the Thai Healing Alliance, I continue to study regularly with a variety of teachers, taking advanced courses and assisting teachers in their own trainings. My studies have branched out into osteopathy and even more present, shamanism, or the understanding of how nature, the elements and energy all play a part in who we are. I believe in our ability to heal ourselves, and share these modalities as a complement and support to help clients and students along their own personal journeys.
